Job Description:

An equine specialist facilitates an equine-assisted therapy session with a mental health professional and structures sessions incorporating horses to effectively address the client’s treatment plan or learning goals, helping with issues such as addiction, domestic abuse, behavioral disorders, depression, anxiety and trauma.

Job Qualifications:

Must have at 6,000 hours (equals approx. 3 years of full-time work, within the last 10 years.) hands-on experience with horses. This can include owning a horse, leasing a horse, riding lessons. Basic computer skills, and sufficient in email communications, and scheduling.

Colorado Equine Specialist Standard:

All equine specialist at Colorado Equine Specialist are required to mentor 100 hours with a Lead Equine Specialist at CES and become Eagala Certified. There is no cost to the mentorship with CES. Please visit www.eagala.org before applying to learn more about the Eagala Model and the cost to become certified. Colorado Equine Specialist utilizes the Eagala Model at their facility.

Once your mentorship is completed, and you are Eagala model certified, compensation is $25 and up per hour, depending on group size.

Horse Experience

Where would you like to work out of?

As an equine specialist you have two options. You can work from your home, or work at a Colorado Equine Specialist facility. If you chose to work from home, there will be more details upon receiving your application. The MINIMUM requirements are at least one horse(s) that you own. A separate work area at least 60'x100'. No barbed wire fencing for this area. Sessions will only be held in this area. The horses need a space outside of work, as we have our home that clients don't enter. A private entrance to a restroom ( not have to walk through your home) or a portable restroom.
